KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -On Sunday afternoon, Patsy Ellison was in her motorized wheelchair at the Weigel’s on Merchant Drive. Her family says she was crossing the street in front of a stop sign when she was ran over by a car.

Adam Ellison called Patsy his Aunt, calls the death “shocking,” and will always remember her as someone who was kind and could make you laugh on any day.

According to a Georgetown study, pedestrians in a wheelchair are a third more likely to be involved in a traffic incident than a standard pedestrian. The majority of those accidents occur in places without a crosswalk, which was the case on Sunday.

On Merchant Drive you can now see flowers placed where Patsy lost her life, as a family now mourns the loss of a loved one. Patsy was 62 years old, and according to friends and family she was going to turn 63 next month.

No charges have been filed against anyone related to this incident, but Knoxville Police continue to investigate the incident.

Depend on us for more details as they unfold.
