Police: Woman in wheelchair identified in North Knoxville pedestrian crash

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A woman was hit by a car and killed Sunday near Merchant Drive, according to the Knoxville Police Department. The woman has been identified as Patsy Ellison, 62.

KPD said crews responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle around 3 p.m.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim was traveling on a motorized wheelchair eastbound on Merchant Drive towards Clinton Highway when she was struck by a pickup truck that was turning right from Tillery onto Merchant,” KPD said in a release.

The truck immediately stopped following the collision and stayed on the scene until police arrived.

Ellison was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

This incident is under investigation by KPD crash reconstruction investigators.
