Mild start followed by quick chill midweek
The new work week starts off with sunshine and 70s, but the next front sends temperatures tumbling by Wednesday.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The mild start to the week will be quickly replaced by a strong front sending temperatures plunging by midweek.
WHAT TO EXPECT
With a bit more sunshine Sunday afternoon, temperatures jumped up into the mid and upper 60s. We’ll remain sunny and cool this evening as we dip back down through the 60s and 50s.
Between midnight and sunrise, a quick-moving batch of showers will move through the area. They should be gone just before the morning drive. Morning lows will start off in the upper 40s.
Behind the rain, Monday afternoon, should see a return to sunshine and highs in the upper 60s. Tuesday fairs a bit better with more sunshine and lower 70s.
Big changes swing in Tuesday night as a cold front ushers in a brief chance at showers and well below average temperatures. It may even be cold enough to support a few light snow showers at the highest elevations of the Smokies by Wednesday morning! The rest of the area will just see some cold rain showers and highs in the upper 50s. That’s about 15 to 20 degrees below the average high for this time of year.
The cold looks to be short-lived as we quickly return to the low 60s and sunshine by Thursday. Friday enjoys the same sunshine, but highs will be closer to 70.
For the following weekend, Saturday looks to be a bit wet. That’s not great news for the Orange and White Game Saturday afternoon. By Sunday morning, most of that rain will have passed us by. Highs both days will be just shy of 70 degrees.
