KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The suspect in a kidnaping incident has been identified by the Knoxville Police Department as 28-year-old Clifford Leroy Blair of Knoxville.

According to KPD, officers responded to a reported kidnapping around 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Cook Drive. Vanessa Brown, 21 was allegedly kidnapped from the scene following a domestic altercation with the suspect.

“It was reported that the suspect held the victim against her will and fled on foot with the victim. Immediately following the initial response by patrol units, a large-scale, multi-agency search that included KPD Search and Rescue, additional patrol units, Criminal Investigation Division personnel and Knox County Sheriff’s Office Airwatch was launched to locate Brown and her alleged kidnapper,” KPD said in a release.

Brown was located 'safe and unharmed’ near Ave. A and Julian Street around 6:40 p.m., following a nearly six-hour-long search in the Montgomery Village area.

Shortly after, the suspect was located near Drive D., but ran from officers once he was confronted. Blair was taken into custody a short time later.

Both the victim and suspect were located after E-911 dispatch received a call of a possible sighting.

“The Knoxville Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the public for their response throughout the incident. From the assistance of residents in Montgomery Village to those who reported possible sightings through E-911, the public played an invaluable role in the successful resolution of this event,” KPD said in the release.

Charges are forthcoming on the suspect, who had outstanding warrants for aggravated domestic assault and domestic assault from previous incidents.
